National Theater to Change How to Hire Actors

Written: 2015-01-16 18:57:53Updated: 2015-01-16 18:58:52

The National Theater Company of Korea will change the way it hires actors to hire them as part-time actors each year.

It had been auditioning actors for each play after it scrapped the permanent actor system in 2010, amid criticisms that some permanent actors who had job security were in a rut and the average age of the actors were in their early 50s.

The change however raised legitimacy concerns for the company as the auditioning system selected different actors for each play, while some also pointed out that an excessive workforce was required for the auditions that took place about 20 times each year.

The company says it plans to further revise and improve the system if needed.
