US-N. Korea Open Unofficial Talks in Singapore

U.S. academics and former senior officials met with North Korea's chief nuclear negotiator in Singapore on Sunday to discuss the North’s denuclearization.

The Associated Press said a team led by former U.S. special envoy for North Korea Policy Stephen Bosworth and the North’s chief delegate to the six-way nuclear talks, Ri Yong-ho, met at a hotel in Singapore for the unofficial talks.

The two sides are said to have confirmed their positions on the North’s nuclear and missile programs at the meeting that will run through Monday.

Attention is being drawn to what outcome the meeting will produce as it comes after the U.S. rejected the North’s offer to temporarily halt its nuclear tests if the U.S. called off its annual joint military exercises with South Korea.
