N. Korea: May 24th Sanctions Must be Lifted for Family Reunions to Take place

North Korea’s propaganda Web site, Uriminzokkiri, claimed that in order for reunions of separated families to take place, South Korea must lift its May 24 economic sanctions and suspend its military drills with the U.S.

The Web site claimed that the South is raising tension on the Korean Peninsula with its joint military exercises with the U.S. and distribution of anti-North propaganda leaflets.

Uriminzokkiri added that it’s self-explanatory why families and relatives cannot share the love of brotherhood amid the sound of gunfire.

The Web site said once the right mood and environment are created, many things could proceed rapidly to improve inter-Korean ties, including the family reunions. The Web site stressed that whether or not such developments take place is entirely up to South Korea.
