N. Korea to Invite Foreign Investors to Wonsan and Geumgang in April

North Korea’s state media reported Tuesday that the country will invite foreign investors as early as April as part of efforts to develop its eastern coastal region into a world-class tourist destination.

The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the North Korean company in charge of developing the Wonsan area will hold a presentation for potential investors in April or May. Oh Ung-kil, the head of the company, was quoted by the KCNA as saying that the company will also let investors tour the eastern coastal area and the adjacent Mount Geumgang.

Oh told the KCNA that the company is maintaining a simultaneous focus of development and tourism for the Wonsan and Mount Geumgang projects.

The North has pushed forward with a project to develop a 430-square-kilometer area in Wonsan and Mount Geumgang into an international tourism zone since its rubber-stamp parliament announced the plan in June of last year.
