North Korea is denouncing the possible presentation of Sony Pictures’ movie “The Interview” at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival, calling it a clear provocation.
The North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement that screening the movie at the film festival is not about freedom of expression and is inconsistent with the purpose of the film festival.
Evoking the Holocaust, North Korea argued that Germany could repeat its shameful historical mistake by screening the movie.
Pyongyang insisted screening the “Interview” in Berlin goes against the current worldwide anti-terrorism drive following the terrorist attack on a French satirical magazine earlier this month.
However, German media outlets and the Korean Cultural Center in Germany said that Sony Pictures has decided not to submit the movie to the Berlin International Film Festival.
The film will be shown at some German movie theaters beginning the day after the festival’s opening.
