VOA: Some 100 Britons Apply to Teach at Pyongyang College

Voice of America said Friday that some one hundred Britons applied for a foreign instructor post placed by the Pyongyang Tourism College in North Korea.

According to the VOA report, the advertisement was published by Juche Travel Services, a London-based travel agency specializing in North Korean tours. The recruitment ad was for volunteers to teach English and tourism at the Pyongyang college for one month while also traveling the hermetic country.

The travel agency initially planned to send five foreign instructors each in May and November to the North Korean school. But with high applicant numbers, it changed the plan to send five foreign teachers every month from May to November.

The foreign volunteers teaching program launched by the North's General Bureau of Tourism went through a trial run last August.

Those selected for the teaching experience in North Korea will need to pay one thousand-160 U.S. dollars for costs for the Tourism College’s operations and textbook development.
