Prime Minister Goh Kun offered the condolences of President Roh Moo-hyun's government Thursday to the residents of Jeju Island who suffered in the "April 3 incident" of 1948.

In a memorial service commemorating the 55th anniversary of the tragedy in Jeju, Goh said, "we offer our sincere condolences to the bereaved families who have silently kept the agony of loss of their beloved ones for half a century."
