Seoul Dismisses Pyongyang's Argument Against UN HR Resolution

The government dismissed Pyongyang's argument that the UN Resolution on North Korean human rights is based on false testimonies and should be scrapped.

With North Korea raising issues with defector Shin Dong-hyuk's admission of inaccuracies in his autobiography, Unification Ministry spokesperson Lim Byeong-cheol said it is undeniable that the North engages in systematic and widespread abuse of human rights.

During a regular briefing on Monday, the spokesman said the North shouldn't make unreasonable assertions on the pretext of Shin's inaccuracies.

Instead, the spokesman said, Pyongyang should take concrete steps to cooperate with the UN's human rights efforts, specifically demanding the North to invite the UN special rapporteur on human rights.

On the failure to hold inter-Korean dialogue in January, Lim reiterated that Pyongyang must stop its consumptive claims and come forward to hold talks with the South.
