North Korea's Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland has denounced former South Korean President Lee Myung-bak for revealing behind-the-scene discussions between the two Koreas.
In a statement Thursday, the committee raised issues regarding the recently published memoir, in which Lee said Pyongyang asked for 10 billion
dollars in exchange for holding an inter-Korean summit.
The committee claimed that Lee's memoir distorted the process of unofficial contacts for an inter-Korean summit, accusing him of "begging" for cross-border envoy visits and an inter-Korean summit as exit strategies from political crises.
The North claimed that Lee pretended to have generous intentions toward the North and claimed to have evidence to prove the accusation.
The committee added that the memoir is merely Lee's attempt to avoid responsibility for driving the inter-Korean relations to its lowest level and to dampen the current trend of improving bilateral relations.
In a memoir of his time in office, Lee wrote that Seoul and Pyongyang held an unofficial
contact in Singapore in 2009 during which the North demanded 10 billion dollars and other assistance in
exchange for holding an inter-Korean summit.
