Swimmer Park's Doctor Indicted Over Doping Case

A doctor who allegedly injected a banned substance into swimmer Park Tae-hwan has been indicted.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office said the doctor, surnamed Kim, is charged with injecting "nebido" which contains testosterone into Park on July 29th last year without fully disclosing the risks and side effects.

Prosecutors say Kim told Park that the injection would not pose a problem for doping tests and that the doctor failed to record the injection in the medical records.

Prosecutors also said that both the swimmer and doctor were not aware that nebido was a banned substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency. But they decided to indict Kim based on precedent, including by the Supreme Court, as he has the obligation to check the contents and precautions of all drugs and to inform the patient.
