Debate on N. Korea's Human Rights to Open in Washington Next Week

A debate will open in Washington next week to mark the first anniversary of the publication of a report by the Commission of Inquiry (COI) on Human Rights in North Korea.

Sources in Washington said the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Committee for Human Rights in North Korea and Seoul-based Yonsei University will hold the debate next Tuesday titled, “North Korean Human Rights: The Road Ahead”.

Among the experts who will take part in the event are former chairman of the COI on Human Rights in North Korea, Michael Kirby and UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in the North Marzuki Darusman.

The COI report served as the basis of a UN resolution on the North’s human rights that was passed at the UN General Assembly last December.
