Chinese health authorities have made an official apology for failing to provide enough information on the spread of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, also known as SARS.

The apology came amid escalating criticisms from in and abroad that the rapid spread of the contagious illness is due to the Chinese authorities which didn't share information on the outbreak of the fatal disease.

SARS first appeared in southern Guangdong province, China in November.
