North Korea has advised its people to take precautions not to contract severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS).

During his appearance on the North Korean Central TV, Choe Ung-jung, director of the National Hygiene Inspection Center, asked North Koreans to refrain from traveling to SARS-affected countries.

He explained that the typical pneumonia is passed to healthy people by contact with the carriers' secretions or close respiratory contact with them.
