'Ode to My Father' Tops $2 Mn in N. America

The domestic box-office hit "Ode to My Father" has exceeded two million dollars in ticket sales in North America in just five weeks.

The U.S. arm of CJ Entertainment & Media, the film's distributor, said Tuesday that "Ode to My Father" topped the two million mark on Monday with an average of over 57-hundred dollars per screen on the weekends.

The movie, telling the story of a father's sacrifice for his family in the post-Korean War era, ranked eleventh at the box office among other newly released films in North America.

It's also the fourth highest grossing Korean film ever in the region after "Roaring Currents," "Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring" and "The Host."

An official at the CJ E&M U.S. branch said that people are still lining up to see "Ode to My Father" in its fifth week. He also cited screening requests in areas with a population of ethnic Koreans.

The movie is currently showing at 18 theaters in Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC and Chicago, as well as Toronto and Vancouver in Canada.
