Ministry to Host Symposium on DMZ Peace Park

The Unification Ministry will be hosting a symposium next Tuesday in Seoul on the proposed plan of creating a peace park in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ).

The ministry said Tuesday the symposium will be attended by experts of various fields and held under the theme "DMZ ecological peace park, a land of life and peace."

Forum participants for the symposium's first session that will discuss the park's value will include novelist Kim Hong-shin, historian Lee Yi-hwa, stage actress Park Jeong-ja and head of the Korea Football Association's technical committee Lee Yong-soo.

In the second session, scholars and civic experts will discuss the basic plan for creating the park and how to develop it as well as ways to cooperate for the ecology and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The Unification Ministry will also hold a public contest on user created contents (UCC) themed on the DMZ peace park.

Applicants, divided into two groups of students and non-students, can submit their files on the event's homepage dmzparkucc.com through May 22.

The Demilitarized Zone dividing the two Koreas is a 250-kilometer long military buffer zone.
