The government will invest 380 billion won by 2019 to foster the animation and character industries.
 
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced mid and long-term plans to invest 200 billion won into animation firms and 130 billion won into the character industry. The remaining 50 billion will be invested in funds supporting the two sectors.
 
The government will provide financial assistance to animation and character producers based on their performance. It will also establish a center supporting animation and character creators and promoting the convergence of the two fields.
 
The ministry explained that the investment will help the domestic animation and character industries expand further and overcome business obstacles, citing predictions that the value of the global animation and character industry will reach 200 trillion won by 2018.
