Presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook said that Park Geun-hye will select a new chief of staff on Friday.
Ten days have passed since current chief of staff Kim Ki-choon tendered his resignation to the president, taking responsibility for a leaked document scandal.
Officials of the presidential office said Kim’s replacement will mark a new beginning for the president as she enters her third year in office. The latest move will complete a reshuffle the presidential office has conducted over the past few weeks.
Among those considered candidates for the chief of staff position are Hyun Myung-kwan, the chairman of the state-funded Korea Racing Authority and former Yonsei University president Jung Chang-young.
Han Duck-soo, former head of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Hyun Kyung-dae, executive vice-chair of the National Unification Advisory Council, and Kwon Young-se, South Korean Ambassador to China, have also been mentioned as potential candidates.
The presidential office is also expected to announce a group of advisers to the senior secretary for political affairs Friday afternoon.
