Seoul’s top nuclear envoy said Thursday that five countries involved in the six-way talks have reached consensus on how to resume the long-stalled negotiations.
After returning from a visit to Russia, Special representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Hwang Joon-kook told reporters that South Korea, the United States, Japan, China and Russia should deliver their shared view to the North in the appropriate manner.
It’s known that the five countries have agreed on preconditions to resume the talks, which have not been held since 2008. The five countries plan to contact the North in the near future and present their consensus.
They are also said to be planning talks to measure the sincerity of the North toward denuclearization. Hwang said he hopes the North will respond sincerely to the move by the other parties.
He said the five countries also share the opinion that the North should not discourage efforts to resume talks by conducting new provocations.
