The city of Changwon in South Gyeongsang Province is pushing to market baked goods that highlight the city's unique features like its persimmon production and Junam Reservoir.

Changwon City officials said Friday that the newly developed persimmon-flavored and duck-shaped baked items will debut at the Jinhae Cherry Blossom Festival that begins on April 1.

The idea to shape the bun as a duck comes from the Junam Reservoir, a leading ecological tourist destination that draws tens of thousands of migratory birds each year including ducks. As for persimmons, the city leads the fruit's cultivation in the country, with the history of more than a century.

Commenting on the new products the city has co-developed with the Changwon chapter of Korea Bakery Association, a senior Changwon official said Friday that the city had until now lacked specialty food representative of Changwon that tourists can enjoy.

Changwon City is hastening efforts in product development and brand registration to begin selling the new products at the cherry blossom festival.
