Gov't Urges Gaeseong Firms to Oppose N. Korean Wage Hike

The government has urged companies operating at the inter-Korean factory park to oppose North Korea's unilateral wage hike.

During a meeting Thursday with heads of firms operating at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex, a Unification Ministry official said that the government cannot accept the North's unilateral move and will take a firm stance against it.

Officials also stressed that it is crucial for the companies and the government to speak with one voice.

The government told the business owners that the latest move by Pyongyang will only seriously hurt stability and sustainability of the industrial park, and darken its future.

It also pointed out that the North's wage hike decision violates the inter-Korean agreement that calls for jointly addressing any issues related to making improvements in the factory park.
