North Korea has denounced South Korea for linking Kim Ki-jong, the person who attacked United States Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert, with North Korea.
The North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland claimed on Sunday that South Korea is manipulating the media to spread the idea that the attack was an act by a follower of North Korea, citing Kim had visited the North many times.
The committee claimed that the manipulation stems from a vicious intent to eliminate patriotic forces seeking the reunification of the two Koreas.
The committee then praised Kim, calling his knife attack against Lippert a “righteous act.”
It also claimed that if an act against war practice is called a terrorist act, actions by patriots such as Korean independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun would be also called a terrorist act.
North Korea's main propaganda Web site, Uriminzokkiri, also posted an article and a video claiming that the attack was a punishment and an expression of anti-U.S. sentiment.
The Korean Central News Agency and other North Korean media outlets have actively defended Kim’s attack since the incident.
