S. Korea Unbeaten at Paralympic Ice Sledge Hockey Championships

South Korea has maintained its winning streak by routing Slovakia 9-1 on the third day of the International Paralympic Committee’s (IPC) Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships in Ostersund, Sweden on Wednesday.

It was the team’s third straight victory following a 9-0 win over Austria on Monday and a 15-0 demolition of Poland on Tuesday. The team’s 15 goals against Poland set a record for the most scored in a single game in IPC Ice Sledge Hockey history.

South Korea remains the leader in B-Pool, leading host Sweden by goal differential.

Jung Seung-hwan led the victory with four goals and has emerged as the leading scorer during the championship. He scored seven goals in the two previous games, including four goals against Poland.

The South Korean team will next face Great Britain on Friday followed by a final match-up against Sweden on Saturday.

The two best teams in the B-Pool tournament will be promoted to A-Pool in 2017. In that year, the top five finishers from the A-Pool with automatically qualify for the 2018 PyeongChang Paralympics.
