S. Korea to Ask South-North Gaeseong Agencies to Discuss Wages

The government is looking into asking the South's Gaeseong Industrial District Management Committee and the North's Central Special Zone Development Guidance General Bureau to discuss raising wages at the inter-Korean Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

A Ministry of Unification official told reporters Thursday that labor regulations stipulate the two agencies discuss wage issues and the government would review a plan to organize a meeting.

The official added that revising the regulations requires consultation between the two Koreas, but cautioned that it would take a long time and support from the North.

The government appears set to first resolve the wage issue and deal with revising labor regulations through government consultations at a later time.
