Hearing for Swimmer Park to Open Monday

The international swimming federation, FINA, will hold a hearing on Monday to decide the fate of South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan who was suspended due to doping allegations.

Park, the Korea Swimming Federation and the Korean Olympic Committee have been preparing for the hearing that will open at Lausanne, Switzerland where the secretariat of FINA is located.

At the hearing, Park will underline that he did not intentionally take banned substances and stress that the case was a result of medical malpractice.

FINA is expected to decide this week whether to seek disciplinary action against the swimmer and what penalties should be applied.

Park was summoned to appear for the hearing after testing positive for the banned substance testosterone last September just before the Incheon Asian Games.
