World Book Capital 2015 Events to Kick off in Incheon

The city of Incheon will hold various celebratory events next month as it was named this year’s World Book Capital by the UN cultural authority known as UNESCO.

The city said on Tuesday that as the World Book Capital, it will hold diverse programs and events over the course of a year to promote reading and creative publishing.

The opening ceremony will be held on World Book and Copyright Day on April 23 in Songdo Convensia in Incheon, with 500 guests in attendance.

The city is preparing various programs, such as exhibitions and discussions with renowned authors, from April 22 to 24 in the opening week of World Book Capital.

Since 2001, UNESCO selects the World Book Capital every year for a one-year period, effective April 23 to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day.

Incheon is the 15th city in the world and the third Asian city to be designated World Book Capital.
