A South Korean delegation including a former culture minister will visit North Korea on Wednesday.
An official of the Ministry of Unification said Wednesday that three members of the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation, including former Culture and Tourism Minister Kim Sung-jae, will visit the Gaeseong Industrial Complex later in the day.
During the one-day visit, they are scheduled to look around health and welfare facilities, including daycare centers, within the inter-Korean factory park.
The three will visit the North not as representatives of the presidential committee, but as representatives of the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare, a non-governmental organization. It has not been confirmed, however, whether they will meet North Korean officials during the trip.
The North’s allowance of the visit has raised some eyebrows, as the regime has harshly criticized the presidential committee and called for its dissolution.
