Two S. Korean Films Listed on Top 10 Foreign Language Releases in N. America

South Korea’s box-office hits “Roaring Currents” and “Ode to My Father” were included in the top ten list of foreign language films released in North America in 2014.

CJ Entertainment & Media, the distributor of the films, on Wednesday quoted box office tracker Rentrak as saying that "Roaring Currents" ranked sixth with cumulative ticket sales of two-point-six million U.S. dollars, while “Ode to My Father” came in ninth with two-point-three million dollars in ticket sales.

It is the first time that two South Korean films have made the list in the same year and the first time any South Korean films ranked in the top ten since “Host” by Bong Joon-ho in 2007.

Meanwhile, Indian comedy “PK” starring Bollywood star Amir Khan took the top spot, raking in over ten million U.S. dollars. Four Indian films, including "PK," made the top ten list.
