For the first time in a century a concert has been held at Seokjojeon Hall in Deoksu Palace where parties were held for King Gojong in the 1910s.

The Cultural Heritage Administration hosted a piano and violin concert at the main hall Wednesday night. Songs played at the concert included a traditional Korean folk song titled “Monggeumpo Taryeong,” a favorite of King Gojong.

A magazine named “Dongkwang,” which was published during Japan’s colonial rule of the Korean Peninsula, said that Korea’s first pianist Kim Young-hwan performed in front of King Gojong at his birthday party at Seokjojeon Hall in the 1910s.

The administration plans to hold concerts at Sekojojeon Hall on the last Wednesday of each month through August. Those who would like to attend can make reservations on the Web site of the Deoksu Palace Office.
