S. Korea Defeats New Zealand 1-0 in Football Friendly

South Korea defeated New Zealand 1-0 in a football friendly held in Seoul on Tuesday.

Substitute Lee Jae-sung scored the winner in the 40th minute of the second half at Seoul World Cup Stadium, his first goal for the national team.

A retirement ceremony was held for veteran defender Cha Du-ri during half time. Bidding farewell to his international career, Cha said he has received more love than he deserved.

Cha made his international debut in 2001 in a friendly against Senegal. Over the next 14 years, he scored four goals in 76 matches, including two appearances at FIFA World Cups.

Team Korea will reconvene in June for its second Asian region qualification round before the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
