The government will formally propose talks to North Korea regarding wage disputes at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
The proposal will be made by South Korea's Gaeseong Industrial District Management Committee to North Korea's Central Special Zone Development Guidance General Bureau.
Seoul's Unification Ministry spokesman Lim Byeong-cheol told a regular briefing Friday that South Korea remains steadfast that Gaeseong issues, including wage concerns, should be resolved through talks between the South and North Korean governments.
He said Seoul is seeking to hold talks before April 10 which is the next payday for Gaeseong complex workers.
The spokesman said that if the meeting is realized, the two sides will discuss a wage increase of within five percent which is the existing wage hike limit.
Lim also said the government will review measures such as insurance payouts to minimize the damage to South Korean firms operating in the complex, if they incur losses while abiding by government guidelines on employee wages.
