No South Korean films will be in the Competition category at the Cannes film festival for a third consecutive year.
The 68th Cannes International Film Festival unveiled its official selection lineup on Thursday, which includes two South Korean films named in the Un Certain Regard category – “Madonna” by Shin Su-won and “Shameless” by Oh Seung-uk.
Another South Korean movie, O Piseu (Office) by Hong Won-chan, has received a Midnight Screening slot.
But no South Koreans films are among the 17 that will compete for the festival’s top honor, the Palme d’Or. The most recent South Korean films to compete in the festival were “In Another Country” by Hong Sang-soo and “The Taste of Money” by Im Sang-soo, both in 2012.
The Un Certain Regard selections of the festival introduce work by emerging talents or established auteurs. The Midnight Screenings tend to select films with a high potential for commercial success.
