The opening ceremony of the “Incheon World Book Capital 2015” will be held at Songdo Convensia at 5:00 Thursday evening.
Some 500 guests, including officials from UNESCO and the International Publishers Association, will attend the opening ceremony for the event that will run until April 22nd of next year.
Various exhibitions and concerts will be held through Friday, to mark the opening of the book event, including discussions with renowned Korean writers such as Lee Moon-yeol.
From October 30th, an exhibition on the documented culture of Korea and Incheon will run at the Incheon Metropolitan City Museum for one month. On November eleventh, the Incheon EduContent Fair 2015 will open at Songdo Convensia.
Also during the event, a major book and digital book fair organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be held.
UNESCO designated April 23 as World Book Day to commemorate the deaths of Shakespeare and Cervantes. Since 2001, UNESCO has been designating a city as a “World Book Capital” every year.
On July 19, 2013, UNESCO designated Incheon City as the World Book Capital for 2015, which is the 15th in the world, third in Asia, and the first in South Korea.
