Cargo Ship from Rajin Arrives in S. Korean Port

A Chinese cargo ship carrying some 47-thousand tons of black coal from Russia arrived in South Korea’s Dangjin Port early Friday as part of the second pilot shipment of the Rajin-Khasan logistics project.

The ship left North Korea’s Rajin Port on Monday and arrived at Dangjin Port at 3:00 early Friday morning.

Unloading operations will begin Sunday before the coal is transported to the Korea East-West Power Company for use in thermoelectric power plants.

A Unification Ministry official in Seoul said a second batch of some 40-thousand tons of black coal was set to arrive in the South on Saturday, however, the shipment has been delayed by about a week due to fog.

The Rajin-Khasan logistics project involves transporting black coal from Russia’s Khasan to the North’s Rajin Port via a 54-kilometer railway and then loading the coal onto cargo ships at Rajin Port and delivering them to South Korea’s ports.
