The superhero movie sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" drew more than 620-thousand moviegoers on the first day of its release in South Korea on Thursday.

According to the Korean Film Council's comprehensive box office tally, the Hollywood blockbuster Avengers 2 was shown on 1,731 screens on opening day to draw 622-thousand-210 viewers and account for 92-point-six percent of ticket sales on Thursday.

The number of moviegoers on opening day is the second highest to date for a foreign movie after the 2007 animated film Shrek 3, which logged in 626-thousand spectators.

It's the third highest in history for all foreign and domestic movies combined.

Last year's domestic flick "Roaring Currents" holds the title with 683-thousand people having watched the film on the opening day.

As of 11 a.m. Friday, ticket reservations for "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" stood at 990-thousand, closely nearing the one million mark.
