Coal from Rajin-Khasan Project to be Unloaded Monday

Black coal from Russia, which arrived in South Korea’s Dangjin Port via the North early Friday, will be unloaded Monday afternoon.

Some 47-thousand tons of black coal, part of the second pilot shipment of the Rajin-Khasan logistics project, will be transported to Korea East-West Power's Dangjin thermoelectric power plant.

Meanwhile, a Ministry of Unification official said a second batch of some 40-thousand tons of black coal which was set to arrive in Gwangyang on Saturday and transported to POSCO will be delayed by about a week due to fog in Rajin.

The Rajin-Khasan logistics project involves transporting black coal from Russia’s Khasan to the North’s Rajin Port via a 54-kilometer railway and then loading the coal onto cargo ships at Rajin Port and delivering them to South Korea.
