Several South Korean pianists will compete in the renowned Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition this year.

The Fryderyk Chopin Institute said Saturday that nine Koreans, including Ann Soo-jung and Cho Seong-jin, had passed the elimination round.

Among the 84 pianists who will take part in the 17th competition in Warsaw in October, China and Poland had the most number represented with 15, followed by Japan with 12.

Brother pianists Lim Dong-min and Lim Dong-hyek became the first South Koreans to win prizes at the competition in 2005. They shared the third prize with no second prize being awarded.
