The Expo Milano 2015 kicked off its six-month run in Milan, Italy on Friday.
The Korea Pavilion, themed on Korean cuisine, aims to globally promote the health aspects of Korean cuisine and offer tastings.
The pavilion consists of an exhibition hall that focuses on the merits of Korean food in dealing with food crisis concerns. There is also a Korean restaurant showcasing new menu items, and a cultural commodities hall.
During the expo, which runs until October, June 23rd will be designated as Korea Day.
At the opening ceremony, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Jong-deok said that Korean meals are healthy and well balanced in taste, ingredients and nutrition. He added that Korean food is a great alternative as a healthy food option for future mankind.
Mr. Kim said Korean food can easily attract global attention, as it also holds the rich element of "story" due to its long history.
The Korea Pavilion ceremony was also attended by member lawmakers of the National Assembly's Education, Culture, Sports, and Tourism Committee as well as South Korean Ambassador to Italy Bae Jae-hyun and local Korean residents.
The Expo Milano is officially regulated by the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE).
