South and North Korean civic groups held a meeting on Wednesday in China to prepare for a joint event celebrating the landmark June 15 declaration.

Eight officials from the South Korean preparatory committee for the joint celebration met with their North Korean counterparts in Shenyang, China to discuss details of holding the ceremony marking the 15th anniversary of the landmark declaration.

It is the first time in five years for the two committees to discuss the inter-Korean event. 

If the two sides reach an agreement, the joint event will be held in Seoul for three days beginning June 14.

South Korean committee officials will announce the results of the meeting on Thursday.
