VOA: World Food Programme Provides Aid to N. Korea

A United Nations-backed humanitarian organization has again provided nutritional support to North Korean women and children.

The Voice of America (VOA) said Friday that the World Food Programme (WFP) provided some one-thousand-700 tons of food assistance to 803-thousand North Korean children and pregnant or breastfeeding women last month.

It is the largest amount this year, but is two-thousand-400 tons less than a year ago.

The WFP plans to provide aid to one-point-eight million people in 87 districts in nine North Korean provinces this year.

In an earlier report, the humanitarian organization said that as of 2012 about 85 percent of North Korean children below the age of two and half of pregnant women aren't able to consume the minimum amount of nutrition required.
