S. Korean Artist Wins Silver Lion at Venice Biennale

South Korean artist Lim Heung-soon has won the Silver Lion award at the 56th Venice Biennale.

The Arts Council Korea said Saturday that Lim was honored for his 95-minute film, which deals with labor issues involving women in South Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia and other Asian countries.

It is the highest award ever received by a South Korean artist.

South Korea received special awards for its national pavilion three times at the international contemporary art festival, but it is the first time that a South Korean artist invited to the festival won the Silver Lion.
