Son Heung-min Ranked Best Asian Football Player

A British football magazine has hailed Bayer Leverkusen striker Son Heung-min as the best player from Asia.

In its latest edition released Wednesday, FourFourTwo placed the 22-year-old South Korean player at the top of its list of the 50 Best Asian Players.

The magazine said the past year was not perfect for Son, given that the South Korean national team crashed out of the World Cup and lost the Asian Cup final to Australia. However, FourFourTwo said Son emerged from both competitions with his reputation enhanced.

The magazine said his importance to both the club and the country has increased over the past year, adding that it was not surprising that the Bundesliga team refused to release him for the 2014 Asian Games.

Son scored 11 goals in 24 regular season matches so far this year. He also scored five goals during the UEFA Champions League and a goal during the German Cup.

Meanwhile, FourFourTwo ranked Ki Sung-yueng, a South Korean midfielder for Swansea City, third on the list.
