S. Korean 6th Ever to Complete Solo, Nonstop Yacht Trip Around Globe

A South Korean sailor has become only the sixth person in the world to complete a solo, nonstop journey around the world by sea.

Fifty-two-year-old Kim Seung-jin set out from Dangjin port in South Chungcheong Province last October. He traveled solo on a non-powered yacht passing through the equator, Fiji and the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

A nonstop, non-assisted trip is only successful when the sailor and his yacht never touch land, dock at any port or receive outside assistance during the course of the journey.

Kim is expected to arrive at port Oemok in Dangjin on Saturday after a 41-thousand-900-kilometer journey during 210 days.

The captain is currently waiting to go through immigration at a coastal area.

Various events will mark his arrival at the port site during the weekend.
