Story of S. Korean Priest to be Included in S. Sudanese Textbooks

South Sudan plans to publish new textbooks that include the story of South Korean Catholic priest John Lee Tae-seok, who devoted eight years of his life to volunteer work in Sudan before dying of cancer in 2010.

South Sudan’s Minister of Education, Science and Technology John Gai Yoah revealed the plan on Wednesday when he met with South Korea’s Education Minister Hwang Woo-yea at the World Education Forum in Incheon.

He told Hwang that the story of the South Korean priest will be included in elementary and middle school textbooks to be published in 2017, so that all students will learn about the priest’s noble life.

The books will be the first government-designated textbooks published by South Sudan since it gained independence in 2011.
