'N. Korea Should Not Blame S. Korea for Failure to Hold Joint Event'

South Korea says it is highly inappropriate for North Korea to blame Seoul for the failed attempt to organize joint events to mark the 15th anniversary of the June 15 declaration.

During a regular news briefing on Wednesday, Unification Ministry spokesman Lim Byeong-cheol said the North has been unresponsive to proposals for talks from the South Korean committee, in effect rejecting joint events for social and cultural inter-Korean exchanges.

The North on Tuesday sent a letter to the South, proposing the two sides hold the anniversary events separately.

The civilian groups of both sides had tentatively agreed to jointly celebrate the 15th anniversary of the June 15 declaration and the 70th anniversary of Korea's liberation from Japanese colonial rule.
