N. Korea Demands Suspension of S. Korea-U.S. Joint Military Drills

North Korea has demanded that the South suspend military drills with the United States and recognize the South-North joint declaration if Seoul sincerely wants to engage in dialogue with Pyongyang.

The North’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said in a statement Wednesday that the South is shifting responsibility for the breakdown of inter-Korea dialogue to the North.

It said the North has made groundbreaking proposals and important measures to realize a great transformation in South-North relations this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of independence. But it said the South is spoiling the mood and has missed the opportunity for dialogue.

The committee said if the South wants dialogue, it should stop following the United States' anti-North policies and stop joint military exercises which bring tension to the Korean Peninsula.
