S. Korea Defeats UAE 3-0 in Football Friendly Match

South Korea defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) 3-0 on Thursday in a friendly match before the start of the World Cup qualifiers.

The domestic league’s leading attacker Yeom Ki-hun, international rookie Lee Yong-jae and rising striker Lee Jeong-hyeop each scored in the match at Shah Alam Stadium in Shah Alam, Malaysia.

There had been controversy over coach Uli Stielike’s selection of forward Lee Yong-jae, who plays for the second-division Japanese club V-Varen Nagasaki, and striker Lee Jeong-hyeop, who plays for the second-division of the K-League; however, Stielike’s decision proved to be prophetic.

South Korea will next face Myanmar in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday in Thailand.
