Schools Likely to Resume Classes

Many schools and kindergartens which have closed over concerns of the spread of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) will likely resume classes on Monday.

Education Minister Hwang Woo-yeo on Friday asked schools to reconsider suspending classes.

On the same day, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education also lifted a ban on classes in two Seoul districts, allowing school principles to decide whether to cancel classes.

The move is believed to have reflected concerns that the prolonged shutdown will disrupt the operation of school curriculum. The lift also seems to have been affected by experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) who recommended that schools resume classes.

However, as the nation is reporting new MERS cases every day and disclosing hospitals which treated them, affected schools are suspending classes.
