Report: North Korea fired three short-range missiles into the East Sea on Sunday.
South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said the North fired three KN-01 missiles from its eastern border town of Wonsan in the direction of Mayang Island in the East Sea between 4:21 p.m. and 4:47 p.m.
The missiles were estimated to have flown some 100 kilometers.
It is the North's third test-firing of the anti-ship projectile.
The firing is believed to have been part of a ship-to-ship missile launch drill attended by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
North Korea is also said to have declared a no-sail zone off its west coast north of Pyongyang until June 22, indicating the possibility of additional test-firings of projectiles, such as its 300-millimeter rockets.
Amid the continuing military tension, civic groups failed to put together a joint inter-Korean event to mark the 15th anniversary of a historic cross-border declaration.
At an event to commemorate the June 15 Declaration in Seoul Sunday, the South’s preparatory committee for the joint event expressed hope for peace and unification by achieving national unity. It said the two sides must hold a joint event to commemorate Korea's 70th anniversary of independence on August 15.
Although it has been 15 years since the declaration of the June 15 statement, relations between the two Koreas have become more strained rather than improved.
In a statement marking the 15th anniversary of the first inter-Korean summit held in Pyongyang in 2000, South Korea said the North should promptly respond to calls for dialogue if it earnestly wants to respect and follow the spirit of the June 15 declaration.
