MERS Scares off World's Top Female Rhythmic Gymnast from Gwangju Universiade

The world’s number one female rhythmic gymnast, Margarita Mamun, of Russia has decided not to participate in the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade due to concerns of contracting Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

Russia’s Itar-Tass news agency said Mamun revealed the decision after grabbing a gold medal in the hoop finals of the European Games in Azerbaijan’s capital of Baku on Sunday.

The report added that Russia’s artistic gymnastics team will also not take part in the summer games in Gwangju.

The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade will run from July 3 to 14th. Around 14-thousand athletes from 150 countries are set to compete in the event.
