Gwangju Universiade Village Opens Friday

The 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade village has officially opened in the southwestern city of South Korea.

The planning committee held an opening ceremony on Friday, which was attended by International University Sports Federation Secretary-General Eric Saintrond. 

The Venezuelan team was the first to enter the village on Thursday, and 210 athletes from 22 countries will arrive by the end of Friday. About 13-thousand athletes and referees will stay in the village until July 17.

Some 20-thousand athletes from about 170 countries will compete in 21 sports in the 2015 Gwangju Summer Universiade, which will take place from July 3 through 14.
